Austin Lawyer Submission Guidelines
<-- Back to main page | Deadlines
- All submissions including columns, features, announcements, photos, etc., are due to the Managing Editor by the 5th of the month preceding that issue.*
- Authors should contact Managing Editor Kat Hinson before writing the article, column, or announcement to see if the article topic meets the current needs of the publication. Kat Hinson may be reached at 472-0279, x107 or kat@austinbar.org.
- Traditionally, Austin Lawyer has given preference to members of the Austin Bar/AYLA and, in general, an article by an author who has not had an opportunity to publish previously in Austin Lawyer.
- Typical articles and columns should run about about 350 to 500 words and should not exceed 800 words.
- Submissions must be submitted via e-mail either as a Microsoft Word or WordPerfect attachment. Articles should not include footnotes, endnotes, legal citations, charts, or graphs. (3rd Court of Appeals Column is an exception.) Do not double space between sentences. You may submit a title, but the use of it is at the discretion of the editor.
- Photographs and/or images illustrating the topic are welcome, but cannot be returned. All photos must be 300 dpi to be included in publication.
- The Austin Bar Association will not print ratings from other publications, such as Super Lawyers listed in Texas Monthly.
- Submissions that express the political view of the author or that promote a particular political candidate do not express the views of the Austin Bar or AYLA and will be subject to approval by the Editor, Executive Director, and Board.
- Articles may be edited for content and length. If significant editing is required that may affect the substance of the article, the author will be notified.
- Announcements for Briefs or Calendar should include all pertinent information including firm name, address, and contact numbers for Briefs, and date, time, location, summary, and contact name and number for more information for Calendar. Send announcements to Communications Assistant Julie Gau at Julie@austinbar.org.
- Only columns and feature articles will get a byline.
- Photographs and/or images illustrating the topic are welcome, but cannot be returned.
- Submissions should be made to Kat Hinson at Kat@austinbar.org.
