Help AYLA Spread Holiday Cheer, Dec. 19
Date: Saturday, Dec. 19
Time: 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Austin Young Lawyers Association's 27th annual Holiday Baskets Project is this Saturday, Dec. 19. The goal of the project is to provide groceries, gifts, a legal-resource guide, a personalized holiday card, and (if funds permit) a gift certificate and/or calling card to local families who need assistance during the holidays. This year, AYLA is working with Blue Santa in an effort to maximize the number of families served and increase the level of donations to each family in need.
AYLA still needs volunteers and funds for Holiday Baskets to succeed. With assistance from invaluable volunteers, AYLA will deliver the holiday baskets this Saturday beginning at 11:00 a.m. AYLA needs a couple more volunteers to call families this week to verify their addresses and remind them of the deliveries. AYLA also needs a few more volunteers to deliver the holiday baskets. Sign up to volunteer online, and contact Kennon Peterson if you have any questions or concerns.
Donations are fully tax-deductible (your canceled check is your receipt), and for only $135 you can sponsor an entire family! Donate online or send checks made payable to AYLA Foundation to Austin Young Lawyers Association, Attn: Debbie Kelly, re: Holiday Baskets, 816 Congress Ave., Suite 700, Austin, Texas 78701.
Thanks for your consideration and happy holidays!

AYLA Seeking Volunteer Mock Trial Judges, Feb. 6
AYLA is seeking volunteers willing to serve as judges for the Central Texas High School Mock Trial Competition on Saturday, Feb. 6. This competition allows teams of high school students from area schools to prepare and present all aspects of a mock trial (opening argument, closing argument, and direct and cross examination of several witnesses). The winning team advances to the State Mock Trial Competition in Dallas with possible advancement to the national competition.
Mock trial experience is not necessary to serve as a judge. There is virtually no advance preparation needed (all judges will receive information describing the relevant issues). The time commitment is minimal--each round lasts approximately two hours--and CLE credit is available. The competition will take place in the Travis County Courthouse at 1000 Guadalupe.
If you can volunteer a couple of hours to help potential future lawyers, please contact AYLA Mock Trial Committee co-chairs Nicki Glauser at nglauser@velaw.com or Brad Compere at bcompere@hernandezsimpson.com.
