AYLA Holiday Baskets Needs Your Help This Week

AYLA is desperately low on donations needed to fund the 26th Annual Holiday Baskets Project, which is less than two weeks away. As a reminder, through this project AYLA gives groceries, small gifts, phone cards, and a legal-resource guide to local families in need. This year, the recipient families were pre-screened and identified by Volunteer Legal Services, American Gateways (formerly Political Asylum Project of Austin), the UT Law Survivor Support Network, Texas Community Building With Attorney Resources, and UT Law Clinics.

Generally, AYLA tries to help 75 families through the Holiday Baskets Project. This year, however, AYLA selected only 65 families to account for the depressed economy and difficult fundraising times. Despite this adjustment, as of today, AYLA does not have enough money to purchase all of the groceries, much less the gifts. If AYLA does not receive a large amount of donations by the end of this week, some or all of the children will have to go without gifts this year.

Please give whatever you can give (even if it's a small amount) and encourage co-workers, family members, and friends to do the same so that AYLA can provide modest holiday meals and gifts to local families who can't afford even the most basic essentials this holiday season. Remember that you can support an entire family by donating $135. You can donate online by clicking here or send your tax-deductible donation, payable to the AYLA Foundation, to:

Austin Young Lawyers Association
Attn: Mollie Gallagher (RE: Holiday Baskets)
816 Congress Ave., Ste. 700
Austin, TX 78701

All donations are greatly appreciated. Special acknowledgment will be given to those who donate at the following levels: Platinum ($1,000 or more) — recognized as a platinum sponsor in Austin Lawyer, named on a placard at the AYLA Christmas Party, and identified as a platinum sponsor to the families; Gold ($750-$999) — recognized in Austin Lawyer as a gold sponsor and identified as a gold sponsor to the families; and Silver ($500-$749) — recognized in Austin Lawyer as a silver sponsor.

If you have any questions about Holiday Baskets, please contact Kennon Peterson (kennonpeterson@hotmail.com or 463.1353), Chris Popov (cpopov@velaw.com or 542.8636), Dustin Howell (Dustin.Howell@courts.state.tx.us or 463.1326), or Monty Exter. Thanks in advance for your consideration and support!
