Travis County Women Lawyers Association Seminar, Nov. 12

Federal Court Practice Seminar, Nov. 13

CLE: 7 hours including 1 hour of ethics credit

The Austin Chapter for the Federal Bar Association has been serving the Austin federal practitioner since 1985. Today, the Austin Chapter is growing fast, and presently has more than 130 members. The Austin chapter is committed to providing a community forum for all of the participants in the federal courts in Austin, and invites Austin Bar members to attend their Federal Court Practice Seminar.

All instructors are judges or prominent Austin attorneys, and each will be appearing live. A CD with rules, forms, and case discussion outlines will also be provided at the seminar. This course not only satisfies MCLE requirements, but also meets the federal practice seminar requirement for admission to the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas. Texas Youth and Government District Conference, Nov. 14

Location: Heman Marion Sweatt County Courthouse, 1000 Guadalupe

Volunteers are needed to serve as Mock Trial Court Evaluators for the upcoming Texas Youth and Government District Conference. High school students from the Austin area will participate as attorney teams in a mock trial competition to qualify for the State Youth and Government Conference in January.

Volunteer Evaluators are assigned a courtroom to evaluate the petitioner and responder teams. Please let Suzanne Mabie know if you are available to volunteer the full day or half day for scheduling purposes. Call her at 745-1178 if you need additional information or have any questions.

AYLA's Trees for Pease, Nov. 14

In March 2009, Austin Young Lawyers Association sent a group of volunteers to help rejuvenate Pease Park by planting multiple species of native trees. The volunteer event was so fun and successful, they have decided to do it again in November.

City crews will dig the holes for the trees in advance making it fairly easy to plant the trees. At noon, a “Party in the Park” celebration of the new trees will begin. Texico will provide live music, and refreshments will be provided for volunteers. If you want to volunteer or obtain more information, please contact Dustin Howell at dustinmhowell@gmail.com.

The Lawyer Referral Service of Central Texas is teaming with Univision Television to provide LegalLine, a brief legal advice telephone hotline, to Univision viewers. Spanish-speaking attorneys are needed to support this effort to provide quick legal advice to those that might need it most.

TCSO Attorney Badge Identification Card Application for 2010 by Nov. 30

The attorney pass procedure is a privilege extended by Sheriff Greg Hamilton to attorneys who regularly utilize Travis County Courthouse facilities on a daily basis. This pass procedure has been extended to include all county owned courthouses or leased buildings where security screening is present. The attorney pass privilege is extended only during the normal business hours of 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. During all other times, the attorneys will be required to comply with the full screening process.

American Diabetes Association Looking for Board Members

The American Diabetes Association was founded in 1949. It works to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes. A Volunteer Leadership Board works with ADA staff on its signature events in Central Texas and serves as a leadership resource for advocacy at the legislature for persons affected by diabetes.
