Trick or Treat: AYLA Members Only Free CLE
Topic: The Travis County Local Rules
Date: Wed., Oct. 31
Time: Noon to 1:00 p.m.
Location: Austin Bar Association, 816 Congress Ave., Suite 700
Each quarter, AYLA holds a free CLE for its members over a lunch hour. This fall, the CLE will focus on
mastering the Central Docket and the Travis County Local Rules.
As anyone who practices in state court knows (and as out-of-towners quickly learn), the Local Rules can be scary and
tricky (and lead to blood curdling screams from judges when violated). This CLE will not only review the basics,
but address real problems confronted by AYLA members over the years and how they were resolved.
Led by a panel of senior AYLA attorneys, including at least one former staff attorney for a state court judge, this
CLE will be especially beneficial for lawyers new to Travis County (and those awaiting Bar results!).
So grab some lunch (lunch will not be provided) and head over to the Bar offices October 31 for this free Halloween
Treat.

There's Plenty of Room on the Donor Recognition Wall...
The Austin Bar Association would like to thank the following for donating to Austin Adoption Day 2007:
Collaborative Law Group;
Financial Institutions Section;
Law Office of David A. Kazen;
Travis County Constable, Precinct 3;
Thompson, Coe, Cousins & Irons;
Ed & Peggy Fernandes;
Hilton K. Moore;
and the countless others who have donated Teddy Bears and books.
Your gifts are greatly appreciated and will help turn Gardner Betts Juvenile Center into the Land of
Oz for approximately 80 children.
There is still time to donate to Austin Adoption Day 2007, and Teddy Bears and books are running low. If
interested, contact Denise Hyde at 512.474.9911 or denise@hyde-law.com,
or Brooke Williams at 512.472.0279 or brooke@austinbar.org.
Bears and books geared toward toddlers through young adults may be dropped off at the District Court offices
(Room 302) at the Courthouse or brought to the Austin Bar's office at 816 Congress Ave., Suite 700. The Adoption
Day Committee asks that bears (or other stuffed animals) be new or very gently loved and books be in perfect condition.

Put on Your Tops & Tails in Support of Texas Advocacy Project,
October 19
You don’t have to be a contestant on FOX’s new game show to answer this one. A new Partners in Education
study group program needs volunteers to work with groups of two to five students. Volunteers are needed for
2nd grade reading and grades 8 – 9 math.
Research has shown that study groups make the biggest difference in children grasping concepts and retaining
knowledge. These study groups will help students feel successful and grow from working together.
Study groups meet in class for 45 minutes and review curriculum provided by the teacher. Substitutes are available
if a volunteer cannot make it. Also, attorneys can volunteer individually or a law firm can work together to adopt a
class.
For more information, please contact mrobinson@austinpartners.org
or call 512/637-0976.
