Austin Bar Association Unveils NEW Web site!!

After six months of collaboration with Austin-based companies Live Oak Interactive and Spoonbend, the Bar is excited to announce the unveiling of its newest addition. Our brand new, streamlined Web site is not only an added benefit for Bar members, but also a positive sign of things to come at the Bar.

Members can now find an electronic version of the Austin Bar Association Pictorial Directory which is searchable by name, firm, and area of practice. Previously known as the Travis County Bench Book, the Austin Court Resource Guide will be available on Oct. 1. Also, signing up for committees and sections has been made easier than before with new on-line forms.

Many of these areas of the Web site are within a member’s only area and protected by a password. Please follow the steps below to set up your account and gain access.

1. Visit www.austinbar.org.
2. Click on the Member Log-in button on the right hand side of the navigation bar.
3. Because this is a new system, you will need to get a secure password. Click on “Request one here”.
4. This will take you to a new window to enter your e-mail. It is case sensitive. Type your email as you sent it to the Austin Bar Association.
5. Click submit and your new password will be e-mailed to you shortly.

We know members will appreciate the sleek design and ease of navigation. The Web site is now more user-friendly and offers in-depth coverage on topics affecting Austin area layers. Members will no longer find only “Bar News”, but upcoming CLE options, photos and coverage of past events, community service opportunities, and profiles of bar members.

Please visit the new site at http://www.austinbar.org/ to see what all the fuss is about! Check back often to take advantage of new features that are sure to be an added bonus to your Austin Bar membership.

Volunteer for Legal Build – The Bar’s Habitat House, September - October

Date: various Saturdays throughout Sept. and Oct.
Time: 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Location: 7001 Frontera Trail
As the summer heat gives way to cooler months, many Austinites will find themselves without a warm place to call home. The Austin Bar Association is happy to work with the Austin Habitat for Humanity to bring relief for some of these families.

If your firm or organization would like to participate as a group in building the Legal Build house, please contact Laura Lindenfeld (llindenfeld@ahfh.org or 512-472-8788 ext.101) to schedule a day when there is not another group volunteering, or when there is not a full group of 20 scheduled from another team.

If you would like to help as an individual (one, two, or a few), there is no need to pre-schedule. You can come on any Saturday build day at 8:00 a.m. with your liability waiver and get to work!

All volunteers can access the liability waiver when they register at www.austinhabitat.org (click on Volunteer and register). After obtaining a waiver, volunteers can view dates on-line and should contact Austin Habitat for Humanity about helping.

The site is located in the Frontier Valley community off of Riverside and Montopolis at 7001 Frontera Trail.

Volunteers provide their own lunch on site. Austin Habitat for Humanity recommends bringing brown bags or ordering from a local restaurant that is able to deliver, or perhaps arranging for a member of your team to pick the lunch up. This is also a nice opportunity for team members who are not able to work on site to support your group by coordinating lunch for you.

Please contact Austin Habitat for Humanity Volunteer Services with any questions at 512-472-8788 ext. 101.
