Volunteer at Capital Area Food Bank with AYLA, Sept. 19

On average, nearly one in five Central Texans lack access to enough food to fully meet basic needs at all times due to lack of financial resources. 41,000 children under the age of 18 in Travis County are confronted with food insecurity on a daily basis. The mission of CAFB is to nourish hungry people and lead the community in ending hunger. In its 28th year of service, the CAFB provides food and grocery products to more than 350 partner agencies in 21 Central Texas counties. In 2008 alone, the CAFB distributed more than 17 million pounds of food.

AYLA has partnered with the CAFB once again to provide an opportunity to volunteer in the CAFB’s product-recovery division from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 19. Volunteers will inspect and clean food donations to ensure they are safe for consumption. Volunteers may also sort and weigh donations in preparation for delivering the donations to Central Texans in need.

If you want to volunteer three hours of your time to help combat hunger in Central Texas, please contact Kennon Peterson at kennonpeterson@hotmail.com. If you want to learn more about the CAFB in general, please visit their Web site. Thank you for your consideration!
