Masters in Trial – A Trial Demonstration, RSVP by September 21

Time: noon
Location: 816 Congress Ave., 3rd floor Conference Room

Topic: A Trial Demonstration in a Personal Injury/Premises Liability Case from Opening Statement to Jury Deliberations
Date: Friday, Sept. 28
Location: Hyatt Regency Austin, 208 Barton Springs
Cost: a special Austin Bar member price of $330
CLE: 7.0 hours

This demonstration makes CLE fun! The Austin Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates brings you an actual examination of witnesses and experts before an Austin District Judge and a real jury, complete with courtroom visuals. Following the presentation of the evidence by the participating attorneys, the judge will give the jury their instructions and they will retire to the jury room to deliberate. The jury deliberations will be broadcast live into the seminar room, giving the audience an opportunity to view the evidence, strategy, and technique that made an impression on the jurors. The trial is based on a personal injury case resulting from a mugging in a motel parking lot, allegedly causing the plaintiff's post traumatic stress disorder. However, the skills you will see demonstrated are applicable to virtually every other civil case.

Adoption Day Teddy Bear and Book Drive

Children are not the only ones being adopted on Adoption Day. Several hundred teddy bears also find a new home and family on this special day. One large teddy bear is presented to each child being adopted in Travis County, and one small bear is given to each of their siblings.

Beginning September 6, bears and books geared toward toddlers through young adults may be dropped off at the District Court offices at the Courthouse or brought to the Austin Bar’s office at 816 Congress Ave., Suite 700. The Adoption Day Committee asks that bears (or other stuffed animals) be new or very gently loved and books be in perfect condition.

To participate in this memorable and rewarding opportunity, contact Denise Hyde at 479-9911 or Kat Hinson at the Austin Bar at 472-0279.

Austin Bar Partner Offers Unique Program

The ABA Retirement Funds program was created more than 40 years ago by the American Bar Association to provide quality retirement solutions for the legal community. Today the Program is run by CitiStreet and is the largest provider of retirement services (401(k) and profit sharing plans) to law firms with over $4.5 billion under management. The Program is unique in the retirement industry because it is the only program which was created solely to be a benefit for the legal community and is run as a not-for-profit.

The Program’s unique structure, purpose and size allow it to offer these plans without having to charge any out-of-pocket fees to participating law firms. In addition, it offers individual participants a line-up of 10 institutionally priced Core Fund options, an integrated brokerage window and five Retirement Date Fund options. The Program’s Core Fund line-ups are managed by some of the industry’s leading money managers and carry expenses which are well below the industry averages for both mutual funds and annuity-based funds. Further, the Program’s structure allows it to act as trustee and offer fiduciary services, as well as ongoing professional oversight.

The ABA Retirement Funds program is a unique benefit of the ABA and can help law firms reduce their expenses and enhance their retirement services package. Contact a Program representative at 800/826-8901 for a prospectus or visit http://www.abaretirement.com/ for more information.
