Austin Bar Member Directory Goes Live!

The Austin Bar is happy to announce that our online Membership Directory is now live and open to the public. The directory is searchable by name, firm name, and Area of Practice.

To view this exciting new addition to Austin Bar's Web site, click here. We hope you will take advantage of this member benefit and that it will even generate a bit of business for you and your firm.

For a small fee, members can add areas of practice, board certification, a link to your Web site, and a short bio. Click here for the form and return completed with payment to Carol Tobias by fax at 473-2720 or by email at Carol@austinbar.org.

Also, beginning today, Austin Bar members can download a PDF of the directory for free. Since this is for members only, the PDF is only accessible by signing in to the members only section of our Web site. Click here to access the login page. If you do not have a password, you can request on online. If you do not receive your password or have any trouble accessing the members only area, please contact Brooke Williams at Brooke@austinbar.org or 472-0279, x108.

Open House for New Travis County Offices, June 24

Don't miss the opportunity to meet the staff of Travis County's latest additions: the Office of Parental Representation (OPR) and the Office of Child Representation (OCR). On Wednesday, June 24, each office will host a coffee in the morning and hors d'oeuvres in the afternoon.

This is a great chance to meet the staff and other community partners who will work with these offices as well as learn more about the roles of these new entities.

Austin Bar Member Celebrates Release of New Book, June 27

Austin Bar member Jack London invites you to join him this Saturday in celebrating the release of his new book French Letters: Virginia's War, book one in his exciting trilogy. London will visit about the writing process, read a short selection, and sign copies of the book.

Texas Access to Justice Magna Stella Award Nominations Due July 10

The Texas Access to Justice Commission is seeking nominations for the Pro Bono Category. The Pro Bono Category recognizes corporate legal departments - not individuals. (Any individuals you wish to recognize can be nominated for the ATJ Corporate Counsel Pro Bono Award, details for which will be circulated in Spring of 2010.) Please nominate a deserving corporate legal department using this form by July 10.

As you will note from the nomination form, Magna Stella has several categories of awards. If you have questions regarding other Magna Stella Awards, please direct those questions to the Texas General Counsel Forum at 214/999-4317.

Austin Chamber's South Austin Business Council Luncheon, July 13

Speaking at the Austin Chamber’s South Austin Business Council luncheon, Sen. Watson will discuss the upcoming special session and key legislation left on the table. He has represented the residents of State Senate District 14 since 2006 and currently serves as Chair of Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization.

Peace Maker Award - Nominate Someone by Aug. 31

Every two years, the Dispute Resolution Center's Board of Directors selects recipients for the Peace Maker Award given to individuals, groups, organizations, or other qualifying entities that have successfully engaged in peacemaking efforts; resolved a current or potential conflict peacefully or otherwise took steps to increase the presence of peaceful resolution in our community.

If you know of recognition-worthy efforts pertaining to managing conflict successfully, please fill out the nomination form and return to the Center per written instructions by Monday, August 31.

An award ceremony will be held in late October. If your nominee is selected, both you and the nominee and his/her guest will be invited to join the celebration.
