Don't Forget - Two Weeks Left for Blood Drive

Throughout the month of June, the Austin Bar Association, in competition with the Travis County Medical Association and Austin CPA Society, is donating blood in support of the Blood and Tissue Center of Central Texas. The summer months are, unfortunately, an especially busy time for the Center and they need our help.

In less than an hour, you can make a big difference in someone else's life. Donate blood at The Blood and Tissue Center on Lamar or at the Round Rock location.

The Juggling Act: Caring for Aging Parents vs. Career Advancement - June 29

Do you have a plan to prevent a working caregiver crisis? Many people are caught in the “sandwich generation” of juggling their careers, a family, and caring for an elderly or aging loved one.

Something’s got to give if you don’t have a plan. Most of the time it’s your career and personal wealth that will take a hit. And it’s not just impacting employees. Working caregivers are costing American firms as much as $33.6 billion annually in loss of productivity.

Join the Austin Bar Association on June 29 at 11:30 a.m. as we explore the issues involving working caregivers and the long-term care solutions available to provide protection and assurance for firms and their employees.

Speakers panel:

  • Carol Marak, Founder, WorkingCaregiver.com
  • Peter Berardino, CEBS, CLTC, MetLife Resources Representative
  • Representatives from Caring Connections
RSVP today to michelle@austinbar.org. The first 20 RSVP’s will receive a free Starbucks gift package.

New Publication Guides Readers Through Arbitration

The State Bar of Texas announces the March 2007 publication of Arbitration Road Map: A Guide to Clauses, Procedures, and Hearings. The book covers domestic and international arbitrations and is co-authored by Mina A. Brees, Craig S. Miles, and R. Doak Bishop.

Arbitration is a dispute resolution process offering flexibility, control, potential for significant cost savings, and finality. In most instances the process eliminates the extensive discovery, formality, and technicalities of courtroom procedures. Arbitration Road Map guides the practitioner through the arbitration process for both domestic and international disputes. The journey begins with strategies for drafting the arbitration clause and ends with enforcing the award. Stops along the way include the substantive and procedural law of arbitration, arbitrator selection, and the hearing process.

Arbitration Road Map includes a CD-ROM containing the entire book, with hyperlinked sample clauses in RTF from the American Arbitration Association, the International Chamber of Commerce, and other institutions, as well as hyperlinked international arbitration statutes.

The publication is available for purchase from the State Bar of Texas online at www.TexasBarBooks.com or by calling the State Bar Sales Desk at 1-800-204-2222 x1411 or (512) 427-1411.
