Lawyer Privacy Bill Becomes Law
Last week, Governor Rick Perry signed legislation allowing lawyers to choose to keep certain information
provided to the State Bar of Texas confidential. This information includes the attorney's home address,
home telephone number, Social Security number, email address, and date of birth. HB 1237 was authored by
Representative David Farabee (D-Wichita Falls) in the House and sponsored by Senator Glenn Hegar (R-Katy)
in the Senate. The bill takes effect on September 1, 2007.

Working With Deaf and Hard of Hearing Clients - Training on June 7
Travis County Services for the Deaf & Hard of Hearing will provide a training to inform attorneys in Texas
on a number of important issues.
Attendees will learn about their legal obligations under the American with Disabilities Act to deaf and
hard of hearing clients, what "effective communication" under ADA means, how to work with both technology
and ASL interpreters in the office and in the courtroom, and how to welcome and serve deaf and hard of hearing
clients.
