Austin Bar Office Closed for Presidents’ Day, February 18
The Austin Bar office will be closed next Monday, Feb. 18 in honor of Presidents’ Day. Work will resume and Bar Code will be sent out Tuesday. Have a wonderful holiday!

Austin Bar’s Implements New Phone System
The Bar is happy to announce that a new phone system has been installed. The new system is efficient and will make reaching your desired party easier.
After calling, you will be prompted to enter the extension of the staff member you wish to reach. The following are Bar Staff extension numbers:

The Austin Bar Association's 2008 Judicial Preference Poll was deployed on Jan. 29. If you did not receive your ballot, please ensure that your spam filter is set to allow e-mails from BallotBox@BallotBoxOnline.com.
Voting continues through Wednesday, Feb. 13, at 5:00 p.m. You may also vote in person at the Austin Bar Association office at 816 Congress Ave., Suite 700.

Color of Justice, February 15

Approximately 50 minority students from local Austin High Schools will have the opportunity to participate in the Color of Justice program, a program started by the National Association of Women Judges to introduce minority students to a diverse group of minority judges, lawyers, and law students whose stories illustrate the many career options available in the law and judiciary.
The intent of the program is to inspire minority high school students to consider the law as a career, and to aspire to be a judge as well as a lawyer.
The Travis County Women Lawyers Association is joining with the NAWJ, the Austin Bar Association, and UT Law’s William Wayne Justice Center for Public Law to bring this exciting opportunity to the students. This half-day event at the UT Law School will feature two panel discussions with speakers sharing their personal experiences and encouraging the students to pursue a career in law.

This year, the Austin Young Lawyers Association will be sponsoring the
Mediation Competition at The University of Texas School of Law by providing judges for the rounds. All preliminary rounds begin at 6:00 p.m. and are 75 minutes long. Judges are asked to arrive at 5:30 p.m. as food and beverages will be provided. The schedule for the competition is as follows:
- February 19 (Tu) @ 5:30 p.m.
- February 21 (Th) @ 5:30 p.m.
- February 26 (Tu) @ 5:30 p.m.
- February 28 (Th) @ 5:30 p.m.
- February 29 (Fr) @ 12:30 p.m.

Join Legal Bowl - Bowl for Kids' Sake 2008, February 23

It's time to Bowl for Kids' Sake! Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Texas is celebrating the 25th Anniversary of this bowl-a-thon. Show your support by teaming up with your friends, co-workers and EVEN your boss!
Each team consists of five participants and must raise a minimum of $625. However, teams are encouraged to raise more, since the annual cost of supporting a match (child and volunteer pair) is about $1,000.
This year’s Legal Bowl is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 23 at 1 p.m. This is a great way to network with others in the legal industry!
