Behavior invites you to a pizza lunch and a talk about dog behavior and training. You'll be able to
find out why your dog does the crazy things that he or she does and how to solve common problem
behaviors. If your dog's behavior has you howling mad or you'd just like to know how to get him or
her to listen to you more, this lunch is a must!

This lunch will also be a recruiting meeting for AYLA's new Animal Welfare Committee. The goal of
the committee is to promote the welfare of animals through community service and pro bono legal
advice and representation.
Activities will include hosting pet adoptions and assisting with fundraisers and other projects for
local animal welfare organizations. Members will also use their specialized knowledge and skills as
lawyers to provide pro bono legal advice and representation to assist area district attorneys with
research on animal cruelty prosecutions, provide transactional advice to an organization that finds
temporary homes for pets which must be left behind when members of the United States military are
called to action, and assist with lawsuits involving the legally required euthanasia of animals.

Judicial Evaluation Poll, Now Through February 1
The Judicial Evaluation Poll has been e-mailed to all active members of the Austin Bar
Association and will close on Thursday, February 1. Because the poll began a day late due
to last week's weather conditions, it has been an extended an extra day.

AYLA Seeking Volunteer Judges for High School Mock Trial, February 3
AYLA is looking for volunteers to serve as judges for the Central Texas High School Mock Trial
competition on Saturday, February 3. Judges are needed for two hour blocks either in the
morning or in the afternoon.
You do not need mock trial experience to serve as a judge, there is very little advance preparation
needed, and CLE credit is available. How could you pass that up?

Wow Your Sweetie and Benefit VLS, February 8
This Valentine's Day, surprise your loved one (or yourself!) with original art created by fellow
attorneys. On February 8 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., Lakeside Mediation Center and local
attorney-artists have teamed up to benefit Volunteer Legal Services of Central Texas through a
silent auction.
Come on out to browse and bid while enjoying some nibbles and libations. Works include oils,
mixed media, sculpture, carved objects, quilting, and a handmade bass guitar. All proceeds benefit VLS.

Join AYLA in an Effort to End Hunger in Central Texas
Austin Young Lawyers Association is offering two ways that you can help the Capital Area Food Bank
(CAFB) feed hungry Central Texans.
CAFB serves hungry Central Texans in 21 counties via 370 partner agencies such as soup kitchens,
Fresh Food for Families sites, food pantries, and Kids Cafés in after school programs - almost
40,000 people access CAFB's services each week.
Make a Financial Donation, Now Through February 15
You have the power to help nourish hungry families and individuals here in our home-region by making
a financial donation between January 15 and February 15. Your donation will go a long way -
CAFB will provide five meals with every $1 donated.

Sign Up for Settlement Week for Travis County by February 23
The Austin Bar Association, in collaboration with the Travis County district judges, the County Court
at Law judges, and the Alternative Dispute Resolution Center, brings people a chance to settle their
cases in a cost-effective manner with the aid of a trained, neutral mediator.
If you would like to submit a case, please fill out and submit the case submission sheet to the
Dispute Resolution Center no later than 4:00 p.m. on Friday, February 23.
There is a $25 administrative fee for participation in Settlement Week. Checks should be made payable
to the Austin Bar Association and delivered to the Dispute Resolution Center with the case submission
sheet.
