Travis County has had more than 20,000 court cases filed electronically. This number puts it among the leaders in the state and the nation in taking paper out of the process of filing a case in court. However, electronic filing has developed slowly over the past 10 years since the Legislature passed a bill creating the Judicial Committee on Information Technology.
To create some momentum behind this movement, the JCIT is holding an E-Filing Summit Meeting and invites anyone who has an interest in or might participate in E-Filing. Judge John Dietz also welcomes your comments about mandated E-Filing.

Volunteer for LegalLine, January 8
Time: 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Austin Young Lawyers Association is looking for volunteers for LegalLine, which will be held the second Tuesday of this month due to the holidays. LegalLine provides the public the opportunity to obtain answers to simple legal questions from licensed attorneys. Please e-mail Adam Schramek if you would like to volunteer.

Renew Bar Membership by January 15 for Judicial Preference Poll Eligibility
The Austin Bar Association's Judicial Preference Poll will be e-mailed to all Austin Bar members on Tuesday, Jan. 29. 2008 dues must be paid by Jan. 15 to be eligible to vote in the poll.
The poll will be available online through Ballot Box and at the Austin Bar office from 8:00 a.m. on Jan. 29 through 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 13. For those members who have not provided an e-mail address to the Bar office, postcard ballots will be mailed on Jan. 29.

The money raised from tickets sales and both auctions will benefit the Austin Bar Association’s many charitable projects, including Volunteer Legal Services of Central Texas, Rural Legal Aid, People's Law School, Law-Related Education, Austin Adoption Day, Hunger Relief Project, and other law-related charities.
